I am writing this blog a little different than the previous blogs I have written so far. This particular gallery consists of two rooms in the shape of the letter L. I have noticed that each time I come to this gallery the wall color is obviously affected by the paintings that are hung on them. This does not surprise me at all when I think about it. However, the reason I mention this is because of multiple trips I have made here the creativity of the artists when they hang or position their sculptures allows me to feel like I am entering a new establishment each time. One of the ways this is done is that each artist as they prepare for their show adjusts the lighting to enhance their images. When I entered the gallery to see Vang’s work yesterday, on the first wall just inside the main door I thought I was looking at paintings depicting Lupines. Since I am originally from Alaska I thought I was seeing flowers from home and got a warm fuzzy feeling inside of myself. I also, might as well let you know before you see the painting, my favorite color is blue. Vang's use of complimentary colors in this oil painting and bridge tones bring this painting to life.

Set 4 Study, Spring 2015, Oil on Canvas panel 12 x 16

Linda Vang is in the process of completing her final semester at Sacramento State University. While I spoke with Vang yesterday I asked if she had a favorite painting in this collection. She told me no. However, she said that while painting for this exhibit she thought about who has inspired her the most and decided that it was her parents. So she painted two paintings with each one a representation of her parents.

Vang to help the viewers to understand her and her work put a didactic on the wall for everyone to read. After I read her "Artist Statement" however went on my own adventure when looking at her work.

Artist Statement

When I examined the painting pictured below I was in my own fantasy walking in the picture. It reminded me of a science fiction movie or maybe it brought back memories of the movie "Fern Gully" as I stood there and let my imagination ran wild.

Samantha Hughston  engrossed in looking at the painting titled, "Large Study 1," Oil on Canvas 50' x 40".
Another painting that I fell in love with was as Vang described to me where she allowed her imagination to take over is pictured below. Vang's skill in her color chooses add a three dimensional quality to all of her artworks.

"Within An Idea," Spring 2016, 32' x 48"
Vang said while she painted this piece the idea behind the spheres was that every time she thought she knew what she was going to do to the painting another idea would come to her and the painting changed. For those of you that are not able to come to the show here is a close up of the spheres so you can see how well she executed painting the luminosity of the spheres.

I happen to enjoy all types of art and here is one of two drawings Vang has in her exhibition. Vang has inspired me to take more art studio classes just from looking at her work.
"Drawing Study 3," Fall 2015, Mix media on paper, 24' x 18'
There are many other pieces in this very cohesive art exhibition. Please if you can make the show. You will not be disappointed.
